Over time, pastures are compacted by livestock, especially in the areas the livestock favor. This creates poor growth and water penetration. The Wingfield Pasture Renovator works to restore compacted areas by digging beneath the surface to loosen up compacted areas.

In our Pasture Renovator, the knives are removed from the front beam and the Clymer spring-loaded coulters are mounted in line with the shanks on the rear beam, creating a 20-inch spacing. The Mole Knife, which is protected with shear bolts, is matched with the spring-loaded coulter to cut residue and loosen the soil to a depth of 4 to 8 inches, allowing water and air to penetrate into the soil upon contact. This reduces runoff that creates erosion.

We recommend pulling the Renovator across the slope, instead of up and down the slope. The mole-type penetration will further slow the movement of water. In heavy vegetation, run the coulter 3-4 inches deep to keep the mole knife from turning up clumps of sod. If the roots of the sod are not turned upward, the mole knife will invigorate growth. If it is necessary to completely loosen the soil, make another pass at a 10- to 15-degree angle to your first pass.

The Wingfield 3-Point Harrow can be attached to the Renovator to smooth and spread manure in the same operation.
