The Wingfield Arena Renovator works like a mole in your yard by loosening arena surface with the mole knives, set at 10” spacing, without bringing coarse material to the surface. The gauge wheels control the depth of the tillage from 4 inches to 8 inches without disturbing the hard base areas of the arena. Usually, one pass with the Arena Renovator will sufficiently loosen the arena’s surface.

The 3-point adapter on the rear of the renovator accepts the 3-point landscape harrow (5” depth) or the 3-point maxilift harrow (7½ inch depth) which will level and firm the arena, leaving a uniform 2-3 inch surface footing for working your animals.

Once the arena surface is prepared, the harrow is detached from the Renovator and used daily to maintain a level, firm surface providing excellent footing for your animals. The Harrow will also aerate and mix manure and control odors and parasites. If you prefer a smooth surface without the small ridges left by the harrow tines, leave the first section of the harrow in the aggressive mode and the rear section flipped on its back. The front sections break up the arena surface and the rear section on its back (tines pointing upward) levels, firms, and smoothes the arena’s surface, all in one pass. This creates a surface with excellent footing and a professional appearance.

When you have a harrow on a 3-point frame, you control the harrow. With a drawbar, the harrow controls you. Harrows can be mounted on a drawbar or a frame. Frame-mounted harrows are easily transportable, can be reversed, and allow farmers to lift the harrow mat and shake out collected material. Some farmers start out with a drawbar, and purchase a frame later to mount the harrow.

In an arena, the ability to lift the harrow on a frame prevents arena surface material from being dragged outside the arena, and outside material from being dragged into the arena. In order to prevent this with a drawbar harrow, it is necessary to lift the harrow in and out of the arena.
